The most common cause of gingivitis is poor oral hygiene. Good oral health habits, such as brushing at least twice a day, flossing daily and getting regular dental checkups, can help prevent and reverse gingivitis. Periodontal Disease/ Periodontitis

Periodontitis (per-e-o-don-TIE-tis) is a serious gum infection that damages the soft tissue and without treatment, can destroy the bone that supports your teeth. Periodontitis can cause teeth to loosen and lead to complete tooth loss. Periodontitis can be painful with common symptoms that are consistent with bleeding gums, infection (pus) leaking through the gums, halitosis (bad breath not curable with brushing/ flossing). Another serious symptom, that can be hidden until severe, is heart disease. Your mouth is directly correlated with your heart health so it is important to manage it well. Doing so consists of good oral hygiene as well as regular dental visits.
